The Importance of a Second Photographer on your Wedding Day

Once you’ve found a photographer that you’re comfortable with and trust enough to capture the best day of your lives, it’s time to think about backup. Weddings are beautiful, magical events full of moments worth capturing. Your main photographer will do a wonderful job and provide you with tons of pictures you’ll obsess over for years to come, but they can only be in one place at a time. Having a second photographer can ensure that other important moments don’t get missed. In fact, at Life with a View Studio, we believe in this so much, we always include a second photographer in all of our wedding photography packages.

Here are a few moments that having a second photographer can really come in handy:

Getting ready

One of the sweetest moments of the day happens when the bride, maid of honor, and bridesmaids and groom, best man, and groomsmen get to spend some quality time getting ready together. Whether the bridal party consists of friends or family members, there is always a tremendous amount of love in each of these rooms. While your main photographer captures the girls posing in their matching robes, getting their hair and makeup done, and goofy-dancing to their favorite throw-back songs, your second photographer is free to catch the groomsmen sliding around in their fun superhero or Harry Potter themed socks and the groom reading a letter from the bride.

The walk down the aisle

The shot of the bride and her father coming around the corner and walking down the aisle is classic and timeless. There are few moments in life that are more special than this one, but while your main photographer is capturing this moment, your second photographer can capture another one: the look on the groom’s face when he sees his soon-to-be wife in her wedding dress for the very first time. That jaw-dropped, teary-eyed expression is infinitely worth capturing, too.

Cocktail hour coverage

While your guests are enjoying their first round of drinks and appetizers, you’ll be off taking pictures with your new husband or wife and the bridal party. While your main photographer snaps pictures of a kiss under the sunset, proud embraces from parents and in-laws, and the bridesmaids holding the horizontal groom, your second photographer is free to capture the mingling of the two new families, so you don’t miss this special moment.
